5月31日から7月20日まで、アメリカ・ラスベガスのバリーズ＆パリス・ラスベガスで開催される第53回WSOP(World Series Of Poker)。近年は日本人プレイヤーの参加が増えており、日本での注目度も俄然高まっている。
6月12日から行われたEvent #33:＄3,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold’emでは、3名の日本人プレイヤーが入賞を果たした。バイイン1000ドルのトーナメントには1348のエントリーが集まり、賞金総額は3,599,160ドルとなった。
日本人最高となる42位にランクインしたのはReiji Kono氏（$11,911）。昨年、初挑戦となったWSOPでは $1,500 No Limit Hold’em – Shootout（24位、$5,459）など5つのトーナメントで入賞。鮮烈なWSOPデビューを飾ったNo.1注目株。
今回のWSOPではEvent #24: $1,000 FLIP & GO No-Limit Hold’emで$10,850を獲得しており、今大会1万ドル超の賞金獲得は2度目。鮮烈デビューを飾った昨年を超える快進撃を見せている。
