6月1日から6月3日の日程で行われたEvent #4: Dealers Choice 6-Handedでは、日本人プロの木原直哉氏が3位に入賞する健闘を見せた。バイイン1500ドルのトーナメントには430のエントリーが集まり、賞金総額は574,050ドル。木原氏は52,282ドルの賞金を手にした。
10年前の2012第42回WSOP、$5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Handedで優勝し、日本人初のWSOPブレスレッド獲得を果たした木原氏。東大卒ポーカープロとして様々なメディアに取り上げられ、日本ポーカー界の第一人者として走り続けている同氏にとって2本目のブレスレッド獲得の大チャンスが訪れたが、惜しくもその瞬間は次回に持ち越された。
2022年6月4日現在、生涯獲得賞金1,237,039ドル日本人6位に付けている木原氏。PLOやミックスゲームなど、テキサスホールデム以外のトーナメントに多数出場して結果を残し続けている彼が、幸先の良いスタートを切った今回のWSOPでどんな結果を残すのか、注目していきたい。
